Guests forget the chair sashes. They never forget the food. After twelve years of wedding breakfasts, here is what separates a good caterer briefing from a brilliant one.

1. Feed them on arrival

Canapés within fifteen minutes of the drinks reception starting. Hungry guests drink faster, wilt sooner and photograph worse — this single timing decision transforms the whole afternoon.

2. Count the dietary needs twice

Your guest list already tracks allergies and preferences name by name. Share that sheet — not a summary — with the caterer two weeks out, then confirm numbers again 72 hours before.

3. Taste the vegetarian option properly

A fifth of your guests may eat it. If the meat-free main would not delight you, send it back at the tasting and ask again. Great caterers love this challenge.

4. Plan the children's supper early

Small guests fed at six o'clock are happy guests until bedtime. Ask for an early, simple children's service — it costs little and saves the speeches.

5. End with something warm

Bacon rolls, hot chocolate, mini pies at ten — a late warm bite sends guests home glowing and keeps the dance floor full to the end.
